Food Safety in France
22nd January 2010
Yet another Bath Spa academic to go continental is Dr Iain Haysom, Course Leader in Diet and Health. He spent a week at the Catholic University of Lille, teaching a food safety course to first year Master’s students.
Bath Spa has a long-standing food studies association with the French
university and Iain’s visit was arranged through the Erasmus teacher
exchange programme. In Lille he taught an entire short module, which
involved an intensive 15 hours of teaching over just three days.
Iain was teaching HACCP, a global food safety management system that aims to guarantee food safety during all stages of the food system from primary production through to retail. It forms a major part of his third year Food Safety module at Bath Spa University.
He taught the French students in English, but syas there were no language problems until he unwisely used the expression 'Bob's your uncle' and was met with a sea of blank faces!
