Diet and Health

Further details

Further details

The programme develops your knowledge and understanding of human nutrition and its influence on health and fitness. You will investigate social nutrition and food choice, most of us know the rules of healthy eating but we frequently ignore them – why?

In your final year you investigate current issues in diets and nutrition as well as developing a research project of your own. There is also an opportunity to study wider aspects of diet and health such as health promotion and public health policy.

Preventing illness as a result of food contamination is another theme of the programme. Preparing food safely in the home is one thing but how do you build safety into the food supply chain where millions of products are manufactured each day. How safe is our food? You will evaluate the evidence and come to your own conclusions.

This course is ideal if you want to learn more about nutrition and food safety but lack a science background. We introduce some applied science – your understanding of diet and health will be enriched if you understand some of the underlying scientific principles – but in a very supportive environment.
