Food and Nutrition
Food with Nutrition
This course focuses on the food supply chain, nutrition and consumer protection. It provides a holistic view of the impact of food provision throughout the food chain with particular reference to consumers.
The food and drink manufacturing industry is the single largest manufacturing sector in the UK, with a turnover of £67.6bn, accounting for 15% of the total manufacturing sector. The Industry employs some 500,000 people, which represents 13.3% of all manufacturing workforce in the UK. The food industry, consumer organisations and enforcement agencies need graduates who have a balanced and informed view of food provision. They value the practical skills developed by this award which puts the Bath Spa University graduate in a position to make a positive contribution towards the provision of safe and wholesome food.
As a student on this course you will develop an appreciation of the complexities of the food chain, the needs and demands of consumers and the controls that exist to ensure that the food we eat is nutritious and safe.

Applied science is introduced into the programme where appropriate to enhance understanding of the principles of food safety and nutrition. Our approach to teaching and learning is particularly supportive to those without a scientific background.
In Year 3 (Level H) of the course you will undertake a primary research investigation. Previous students projects have investigated the sensory and nutritional qualities of organic and non organic food, impact of healthy eating campaigns, Awareness of Food logos and The effect of sports drinks on performance.
