Dr Julian Sims, Senior Lecturer: Business and Management

My background has been as manager and consultant in private industry in the UK and USA, but entered academia some fourteen years ago. I have been teaching in higher education for more than ten years.

My research currently examines the impact of new technology on organisations and the processes by which information systems (IS) strategy is developed during periods of technological change. It also covers research methods, the digital divide and social exclusion. My doctoral thesis focused on how organisations develop IS strategy and acquire new capabilities and competencies. Prior to research in IS, my area of interest was financial management.

I joined the Business and Management department in the School of Social Sciences in February 2004. Prior to that I was a Research Teaching Associate and a part-time lecturer, at the University of Bath, where I taught both accounting and information systems. I have also taught computer science.
