Dr Nigel Holt, Senior Lecturer: Psychology
Dr
Nigel Holt runs the first year compulsory psychology module and also cognitive psychology in the second year. He also tutors
students preparing their dissertations in the third year. He will be the first
person you see in a lecture theatre when teaching begins at the start of your
first year. He tells people that one of his goals in life is to demystify
science and psychology. He believes that it needn’t be dull, boring or terribly
difficult at all, and that real interest and enthusiasm from students only
truly comes when they are having fun. Perhaps this is why he spends time
working for the Bath Taps into Science festival each year.
You probably wonder what qualifies him to teach you, so here are some details
you may like to see. He has a PhD from York
in experimental psychology and has worked as a professional researcher before
returning to work and teach at university. He is actively involved in external examining
psychology courses at other universities and in other countries, and is a
senior examiner for a major A-level examination board. He is an author, writing
for 3 publishing companies, and at many different levels, having completed
books in psychology at GCSE,
AS, A2 and university level. He
has two cats, and very much enjoys sleeping and sneakily reading novels when he
should really be writing!
