Dr Rosemary McKechnie, Senior Lecturer: Sociology
As a lecturer in the Sociology department I co-ordinate six advanced level modules: The Research Experience, The Life Course, The Sociology of the Environment, Global Identities and Social Science Fieldwork. These modules reflect my research interests in Western European Identities, Community Responses to Environmental Issues and sexuality and reproductive health. Before coming to Bath Spa I was involved in a number of research projects, for example an ethnographic study of Corsican Nationalism, a qualitative study of local responses to Chernobyl fallout/restrictions on the Isle of Man, changing sexual behaviour in relation to HIV and the management of peri-menopausal menstrual changes. At present I am working with Dr Barbara Korner of the Open University on research based on experiences of activism through the life course. We are interested to find out about the biographical significance of periods of activism in adult lives. The focus is on activism as a way of relating to the world, and on in how personal reflection on periods of activism can continue to influence views and actions through the life course.
