Mike Cardwell, Senior Lecturer: Psychology
My first degree was from the University of Aston in 1973, followed by a Masters degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Bristol in 1980. I have been at Bath Spa since 1997 as a Senior Lecturer in Psychology. Before joining the Department of Psychology at Bath Spa I spent 22 years teaching psychology in FE, so I’ve never really had a proper job! I am a social psychologist by interest and profession, and in recent years I have developed a special interest in the social psychology of peace and conflict.
I have written somewhere in the region of thirty books about psychology and approximately twenty articles, mostly on different aspects of social psychology. My claim to fame is that for one heady week a few years back, one of my books was sandwiched between those two luminaries of the written word, Catherine Cookson and Ruth Rendell, in the Sunday Times best sellers list. For ten years I annually terrorized tens of thousands of ‘A' level students in my role as Chief Examiner for A level Psychology. Thankfully for them, and for me, that particular tour of duty is now over. As well as textbook writing, I am also editor of the journal Psychology Review. The highlight of my career is undoubtedly sharing an office with Alison Wadeley for over 30 years!
