Polly Derbyshire, Senior Lecturer: Business and Management

I joined the Business and Management team at the beginning of the last academic year (2008/9) after working for the university since 2002.   Since that time, I have worked in a number of different roles including working for the Careers Service as a Careers Adviser and as a Lecturer on the Professional & Academic Development Programme.

Previously my career started in Human Resources where I worked both in HR operational roles and within policy development including graduate recruitment.  I have a MA in Managing Human Resources (Kingston University) and I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD).  Before working at BSU, I worked for 5 years for a community organisation supporting adults into work where I retrained as a careers advisor.  I am currently Module Leader for Human Resource Management modules at both Level 5 and 6 as well as the Year In Business (YiB) and Summer Placement modules.

I am keen to engage with employers wherever possible.  This obviously includes identifying opportunties for placements and work based learning but also employer set HR related projects.  Employers who have been involved in this projects in previous years include Lloyds TSB, Somerfield, AEG, ROK Construction, Wiltshire Council and Yeo Valley.
