Communities and Social Identities
Research Focus
Members of CASI share a common interest in ideas about social identities and communities, and in particular how these are influenced by people’s social and geographical ‘locations’. These ‘locations’ can be explored using a range of concepts that span Sociology, Health and Human Geography, including those relating to ancestry, ethnicity, nationality, gender, class, disability, life-course and sexuality. Our common interests lie in questions about how these shape our sense of identity and belonging, and how they influence issues of inclusion, access, crime, social activism, and health and wellbeing.
