Quaternary Research Centre

Overview

Overview

The Centre was established in 1994 and is coordinated jointly by Dr Paul Davies and Professor Simon Haslett. Research undertaken is unified through the application of palaeoenvironmental indicators to reconstruct past environment, spanning marine, coastal, and terrestrial environments, using a variety of indicators such as microfossils (e.g. foraminifera and radiolaria), macrofossils (e.g. molluscs), sedimentology, and geochemistry.

The Quaternary Research Centre is housed in a purpose built laboratory situated in the magnificent grounds of the Newton Park Campus at Bath Spa University. The laboratory is technician supported and currently it is the base to around 10 postgraduate research students on MPhil and PhD pathways. A number of final year undergraduate students also undertake dissertations annually in the Centre.
